ACOEM Secures Partners to Increase Adult Immunizations

As part of ACOEM’s role in a cooperative agreement awarded to the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to improve immunization rates among adults with high health risks, the College will partner with health systems in occupational health settings to incorporate CDC’s Standards for Adult Immunization Practice into clinical care and increase adult immunization through education, dissemination, and quality improvement initiatives.

ACOEM is proud to announce the six health systems and employers that have been chosen to assist us with conducting the work of the Specialty Societies Advancing Adult Immunization program. ACOEM’s success in this important initiative will be made possible through these partners. Noted beneath each organization is the ACOEM member(s) serving as lead on the program.

In addition to partnering with these health systems and employers, ACOEM and the six subspecialty partners of this cooperative agreement will cultivate and update vaccine policy statements to promote the implementation of Standards for Adult Immunization Practice; support continuing education, resources, and strategies; train vaccine immunization champions to encourage outreach and education with subspeciality providers; and convene national and regional meetings to share best practices and lessons learned with the CDC, CMSS specialty society members, and the greater medical community.

“On behalf of ACOEM’s leadership, we are grateful to the CDC and CMSS for their leadership and support of adult immunization and for including the specialty of occupational medicine in this important initiative. ACOEM is also thankful to our health partners who will contribute to improving vaccine uptake and help understand barriers to vaccination in diverse populations,” said ACOEM President Douglas W. Martin, MD, FACOEM.

ACOEM plans to partner with an additional 1-4 health systems/employers this year. For more information on ACOEM’s role in the project and immunization guidance, visit www.acoemvaxinfo.org
